APAFAC is a non-profit organisation founded in 1976 and given a declaration of public interest in 1978, and it has the objective of helping people with ASD and their families, in the broadest sense of the word.
It is registered in the Associations Registry of the Local Government of Catalonia under number 2,554 of Sec. 1 of the Barcelona Registry.
APAFAC is a collaborating entity of the Autisme la Garriga project and a founding member of the following organisations:
• 1983 – International Association Autism‐Europe
• 1994 – Confederación Autismo‐España
• 1997 – Federació Autisme Catalunya
• 1998 – World Autism Organisation (WAO)
APAFAC’s mission is to contribute and improve the quality of life of people with autism and their families, via the creation and management of services that give an optimal response to the needs of this group. In this sense, individual programmes are developed which involve reducing behavioural problems and therefore improving the quality of life of people being helped by our services.
Due to the psychopathological characteristics of people helped by APAFAC, all activities carried out in the different therapeutic services are aimed towards improving the skills of the users and preventing their decline at all levels (functional, cognitive, motor, emotional and social).
In order to be able to reach these objectives, the activities are carried out in small groups and always with the support of an educator, who tracks the carrying out of the different tasks to do and assesses the objectives reached along with the technical team. The staff that help the users are specially trained to give the best care and treatment to the people served.
Throughout the year, the activities vary according to the weather or holiday periods. The activities are adapted to the individual needs of every user.
On the other hand, the therapeutic programmes also include all activities connected to the different popular festivals celebrated throughout the year or even those that are connected with La Garriga. In this way, we allow people being helped by APAFAC to be involved in the life of the town where they live.
APAFAC renders the following services:
The therapeutic residential homes of Llar Cau Blanc (1983) and Llar Cottet (1990): their goal is to offer specific treatments in the long term, facilitate diagnostic assessments and offer residential service, both permanently and temporarily, in accordance with the needs of the people being helped and their families.
Sport Activities: the objective is to offer activities to people with ASD, for them to develop and improve their physical capacities and have a positive impact on their own physical well-being.
Specialised care: this is intended to help people with ASD and their families in all the tests and treatments that they need.
