Due to the characteristics of people severely affected by autism and with severe behaviour problems, it is very important for the families to be able to have family help services.
Since 1985, ASEPAC has organised the flexible and leisurely break service called the therapeutic holiday service (THS), which has been running since 1976, but with another structure. At this time, it is open on all holidays, weekends, Christmas holidays, Holy Week and Easter. It has a capacity of 45 spaces.
The goals of this service are to:
• Get the best possible stability in family life, in such a way that it is possible for a person with autism to continue living at home.
• Avoid having the person with autism suffer from regressions if during their holidays their habitual therapeutic intervention is interrupted during a long period of time.
• Help families to be able to better tend to the emotional needs of siblings, if there are any, since given the characteristics of people with autism, most of the time they take the full attention of the parents.
• Permit mothers with gainful employment to be able to continue carrying out their working activities during their children’s holiday periods.
